So there's been a tag going on around YouTube with the My Makeup Story..I thought it'd be cool to post my answers as well.
1. How old were you when you started wearing makeup?
I think I was around 10 or 11. My older sister is about 10 years older than I was, so watching her in the '90s was fun. When I look back on the pictures of her and me as a kid, it's really hilarious.
2. How did you get into makeup?
I really didn't get a sense of really getting into it until awhile ago. I LOOVVE experimenting and playing with the colors for my eyes. I love how it totally transforms me into looking different. I have to say that it wasn't until I started watching Emily Eddington on Beauty Broadcast that I started to really want to experiment even more. I honestly have to say that the number one thing I love most about her YouTube channel is that she uses products that range from the drugstore brands to the high end brands.
3. What are some of your favorite brands?
Right now, I'm really into E.L.F. I'm so glad to see that there are some really great products out there that are really affordable yet, they work great! I would say E.L.F. is my favorite drugstore brand and for high end, I think it's a tie between Smashbox, Urban Decay, and MAC...I really can't choose..LOL
4. What does makeup mean to you?
It makes me feel beautiful. I don't really care if other people think I look beautiful or not, it makes ME feel beautiful and I guess that's selfish, but it is what it is.
5. If you could only wear 4 products on your face what would they be?
OMG..I don't know...hahaha. I think I'm going to have to go with the CoverGirl tinted moisturizer, L'oreal liquid eye pencil, E.L.F. eye quad in Luxe, and the E.L.F. contour bronzer duo. Wow, this one was VERY difficult. I was thinking, do I want to use any high end product? Do I want to save those for special occasions?? LOL.
6. What is your favorite thing about makeup?
The way it makes me feel.. :D
7. What do you think about drugstore makeup vs high end makeup?
Number one reason, IT'S PRICED CHEAPER!!! But sometimes, you do get what you pay for. There are several really good quality drugstore PRODUCTS and there are also some not so great quality high end PRODUCTS! Notice how I'm emphasizing on PRODUCTS because I don't think it's necessarily just the brand. There are a bunch of E.L.F. products that are just horrible. One that I can think of off the top of my head would be their blushes, the $1 ones. They're very very chalky-like and I really regret buying them, but they were just $1. But in contrast to those, their eyeshadow quads, the $1 ones, are absolutely great! I agree that they do need priming before applying, but they're really really great. Also, take a look at their studio line. Some of those products are extremely great. Now let's look at the high end line, I loooooovvveee Urban Decay, but some of their eyeshadows are WAAAAYYYY too shimmery. To the point where I get glitter all over my face and my palette. I have one of their palettes, I don't remember what it's called, but it's the bamboo wood one where the top slides from the corner. Anyway, some of the shades are absolutely great! Couldn't live without them, but there are also others that are just horrible. But other than eyeshadows, Urban Decay has some other GREAT products. Their all-nighter spray is awesome! I never go a day without it when I'm wearing makeup.
8. What is one tip of advice you can give to a beginner?
Hmmmmm...I think I would inform them to do what I did and watch videos on youtube and let it INSPIRE you. I don't think that you necessarily need to copy the look and go out and get the EXACT products, because it can get expensive. But I say start off with a couple of key products that works well for you and then pretty soon, your collection will build. But let the looks INSPIRE you.
9. What is one makeup trend you never understood?
I think I would have to say permanent makeup. I love makeup for the daily changes I can make each day. Plus, it looks very very silly and I'm sure it's very costly.
10. What do you think about the beauty community on YouTube?
I love them! I don't understand why there are so many haters. I think that they each bring their own opinion on certain products that works well for them. There are some that I love and agree with and I watch those. If I come across one that's not at all interesting or I don't like, I just stop watching. Plain and simple, sometimes I don't understand why people leave such mean and hurtful comments.
Okay...so that's it. It took a lot longer for me to answer than I thought. It was fun though. It's night time and my hubby is sick, so it's time for me to go!
